After successfully establishing the first “Youth Parliamentary Delegation” in the Chouf and Aley region in partnership with the National Democratic Institute-NDI Lebanon, LOGI was selected once more to implement the Youth Activism for Lebanese Accountability program (YALA!) aiming at empowering the youth of the Tripoli districts (Tripoli, Meena and Qalamoun). Through establishing 3 new youth cohorts, LOGI will be training the Tripoli youth to become enabled advocates for clear, relevant and much needed reforms. Heads up Tripoli, LOGI will be heading your way starting June 2020!
Under its project “A United Civil Society for a Transparent Petroleum Sector” done in partnership with Publish What You Pay, LOGI launched its first online activity related to capacity development training on Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) sign up steps and general requirements. This training was given to 4 different groups covering all Lebanese territories and targeted people who are affiliated with non-governmental organizations, media agencies as well as university students and the greater academic body.
Furthermore, in collaboration with Kulluna Irada and in partnership with Heinrich Böll Stiftung, LOGI hosted a one day training with Johnny West, co-founder and director of Open Oil, a Berlin based company that works on developing financial models based on signed oil contracts to help citizens better understand the fiscal terms committed to by both the government and the company.
The model addressed essential questions related to the fairness of the deal between the Lebanese government and the oil companies (Consortium), the expected revenue influx in case of a discovery, and offered insights/ key recommendations that will help policy makers develop better future agreements for our country.
Stay Tuned! The final narrative for the financial model will be shared across LOGI’s website and social media platforms during the month of June.
