Cabinet misses deadline for endorsement of Onshore Law
on 5/6/2019

Lebanon’s Cabinet has not endorsed a law organizing onshore oil and gas exploration, leaving Parliament unable to ratify the legislation, passed an April 7 deadline set by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.

The onshore law had been up for a vote in Parliament on March 7, however Berri gave the government one month to further study it upon the request of Prime Minister Saad Hariri and Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil.

The law, first submitted to parliament in 2017, would regulate the exploration and production of hydrocarbons on Lebanese land territory.

LOGI has submitted a number of concerns and recommendations on the law, which can be viewed here.
